20 ways to boost your wellbeing everyday

Apr 03, 2023

After 20 years of working and training in the wellbeing industry, I've seen many fads come and go. It's easy to sell the next new thing, a quick fix or a hack but what I've learned about wellbeing is that it's about you. The real key to ultimate wellbeing is feeling in control of yourself and your life and creating a healthy and balanced work life.

I've set out to help people to achieve exactly that, and especially in this time of massive change, now you should be looking at how you can make changes for the better, or create your "new normal".

Here are 21 things you can do to really step into the drivers seat of your life and start heading in the direction that you want to go. And it all starts with you, and what I like to call your game changing ultimate wellbeing rule book.

Writing your own rules on your terms and in your own way brings out your fullest self expression and allows you to practise freewill, the key characteristic of being human - bringing more of you to life. This is Wellbeing.

  1. LEARNING TO BE SELFISH

Taking time out just for you. "Me time" is something we are not always celebrated in British culture. Don't be afraid to stop pleasing people and valuing other's opinions over your own truth. It really can hinder your success. It's actually not at all selfish, when done with love and empathy- its about being authentic and learning more about you and what lights you up. By doing this you're actually leading the way for those around you to do the same and focus on what bring them joy and lights them up. It's a plus for everyone and you could be the one to start it all.

2. LOG HOW YOU'RE SPENDING YOUR TIME AND MONEY

How you spend your time and money says a lot - to review this keep a log book on both and see in black and white how/what you are doing. It will determine  what you are prioritising and what’s important to you. Review it and work out if it's what you want moving forward.

3. DISCOVER YOUR OWN RHYTHM/FLOW

It's really different for everyone - after a period of working from home, perhaps a good place to start is to work out a more flexible schedule with your employer or even to start that business idea you have been thinking about so that EVERYTHING is on your terms. Do check if starting a business is the right role for you however, starting a business can seem like the way out but more often then not its harder to get the work life balance. Chat to other business owners and ask for the real facts about running your own business.

4. LEARN TO FORGIVE

Our habits, desires and notions are all created from our circumstances, our past - we have to learn to forgive and let go of the past to help you step closer to choosing the work life that lights you up.

5. FEEL SMALL AND OUT OF YOUR DEPTH

Get outside of your comfort zone -  being around people who inspire you and who demonstrate the qualities and life you want to lead. Maybe its a community online that you need to be involved with too. This will motivate you and inspire you to make the changes you need to make. In trying this you may come across communities or people that you thought were what you wanted and turn out to have the opposite affect and you feel disillusioned - try another group of follow a different person until it clicks and you find your what feels true/right for you.

6. BE PART OF SOMETHING BIGGER THAN YOURSELF

A community with a mission. A purpose and cause that inspires you and moves you. Finding a role within all that and how you can contribute needs to be one of the biggest cogs in the wheel of your wellbeing plan.

7. YOU CAN'T DENY WE ARE JUST ENERGY ANY LONGER

I actually started out as a scientist specialising in Physical Chemistry, so I have a skeptical but always intrigued persona. It's served me well as I ventured to explore quantum physics and ultimately how health and wellbeing can be enhanced by understanding and working with our bodies energy centres. Get to know your chakras, seriously.

8. GO FOR THAT CAREER YOU REALLY WANT

Choose career that you love - apply for that job that you would really like to do or meaningful work that matters to you. It about work becoming more about the contribution you are making and an extension of you and your full self expression. Its about aligning to your passion and purpose and also finding the balance of passion and opportunity.

9. ONE STEP AT A TIME

Manage your expectations. Focus on incremental progress and don’t expect change over night.

10. USE YOUR IMAGINATION

Each day, visualise the work life you really want - connect with it each day to really start to build a solid picture. Visualise yourself overcoming hurdles and think about how you're going to feel when you get there. Your imagination is more powerful that you think.

11. WORK ON A HEALTHY BODY

It helps you create a healthy life. So many common ailments and conditions that we suffer with on a day to day basis can be healed by dietary changes, proper hydration and exercise. Science is now proving the mind and body connection needs to be taken seriously. Our ability to make decisions and handle your emotions come down to your body's health as well.

12. DECLUTTER YOUR HOME

Your environment impacts your mind and having a clear space and "zones" throughout your home for all the different activities really will help you address boundaries and contribute to your health and wellbeing.

13. WORK ON YOUR SELF -LIKING

If loving yourself seems too many steps away - then try starting with learning to like yourself and self acceptance follows. Its from this place that you can start to build your self worth muscle which drives you to create a work life thats true to you.

14. BE OKAY WITH THE UNKNOWN

Unrest, the uncertainty of change and trying something new is part of the process - enjoy it. Learning how to manage any fear of the unknown is vital.

15. GO FOR A WALK IN NATURE DAILY

The benefits of this become more apparent and sometimes its a simple thing like this that can make all the difference. During lockdown, more and more people have seen the impact that being in nature has on their mental health. As life gets busier again, remember the effects of nature and find ways to take time outside as much as you can.

16. INVEST IN YOURSELF

When you invest in yourself - your personal development it is intrinsically linked to your business development. As you grow one, the other has to grow too. Spend money on developing yourself and get support from people who have walked in the shoes you want to walk in. Get a coach - there’s a difference when you pay and when you just team up with a “buddy”. The more I LEARN the more I-EARN is one of my favourite mottos try it out.

17. GET GOOD AT BOUNDARY SETTING

When you're building healthy working and personal relationships determining limits, responsibilities and managing expectations makes for greater success and far less stress.

18. BOOK YOURSELF A HOLIDAY

Be kind to yourself - this can’t be said too much in my opinion. We need constant reminders. Life throws us all sorts of challenges and remembering that we don’t get given anything we can’t handle and to give yourself a break — you are doing the best you can and that is good enough. Remember to slow down, pause - book yourself a holiday.

19. TAKE INSPIRED ACTION

Get curious. Be open minded. Follow your intuition and take action on them. Having a coach to support you to work with you through it - thats where I have spent most of my best time and money. Some concepts/trainings/books will make a profound and noticeable difference, while others might be unconscious or more subtle changes. It's different for everyone, and often if something isn't sticking, try something else and come back to it later. Find your own way and know nothing is ever wasted when you're educating and growing yourself- which leads nicely to the final point.

20. THROW EVERYTHING AT IT

With all the amazing things that I have had the honour to explore, study and learn, some practical and obvious, others rather out there and all sorts in between. There are some very key foundations and there are also some things that I can only describe as magical that have happened to me (and now my clients!) - it's the blend of all this that gets you to where you want to go to. It's the continual learning and personal development that you take action on that leads to unleashing more joy and wellbeing. Just throw everything at it!
