Osteopathy

There are more than 4000 osteopaths registered with the General Osteopathic Council, with those practicing in the UK carrying out more than 7 million consultations every year. Osteopathy was the first Complimentary medicine to be obtain governmental recognition and is now seen by many as a mainstream approach to rehabilitation and recovery as a result.

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a way of detecting and treating parts of the body that are unbalanced such as muscles, ligaments, nerves and joints. Treatment assists the body to enhance its natural resources to optimise its health, alignment and movement. When the body is balanced and efficient, just like a well tuned engine, it will function with the minimum of wear and tear, leaving more energy for living.

How can it help me?

Although the old saying ‘An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure’ has many applications in complimentary medicine, it doesn’t apply to osteopathy, which is not preventative in nature. Rather it is best used to address when pain or discomfort is present, and osteopaths will only recommend treatment under these circumstances. Osteopathy can help improve your mobility as well as the structural stability of your body. By tackling these problems, other parts of the body such as the circulatory, nervous and lymphatic systems may also function more efficiently. Treatments are not limited to certain types of person or age group as everyone from new borns to the elderly can benefit.

Osteopathy may help with many of the following problems*;

Aches & Pains, Back Pain, Arthritic Pain and Stiffness, Backache, Trapped Nerves, Fibrositis Spondylosis, Childhood Injuries, Joint Pain, Lumbago Neck Pain, Muscle Tension, Frozen Shoulder, Rheumatism, Sciatica, Neuralgia

*Please understand that our therapists are not doctors and do not engage in medical diagnosis. Always consult your GP if you have a particular illness.

Our Treatments

When you see our in-house osteopath, Natasha McLeod, your initial consultation will last up to 60 minutes. During this time Natasha will take a detailed case history, including your past history to order to build a comprehensive assessment of your health. She will then carry out an examination of the body to assess what, if any, treatment is required to alleviate any problems you might be having. Our treatments are designed to correct each individual's strain patterns and mechanical problems in order to stimulate their own natural healing processes. Treatment may involve gentle articulation movements, soft tissue manipulation and/or gentle cranial osteopathic techniques. All techniques are chosen for each patient’s individual needs, allowing for the most effective treatment for that individual.
