Sleep & Insomnia
Sleep is such a precious thing – if you sleep well you feel great. If you don’t, it can have an awful impact on your day and even on your long term health. We see lots of people with sleep problems in the shop and have built up a great selection of products that can really make a difference. We recommend getting the basic nutrients in place for long term results and accompanying this with a herbal supplement in the short term to aim to break the sleeplessness cycle.
Viridian High 12 – Vitamin B12 with B-Complex
A lack of sleep can be very stressful on the mind and body and during times of stress, our bodies use up more B vitamins. However, we need more B vitamins too, so this can create a vicious circle that can leave you depleted and struggling to cope mentally and physically with a lack of sleep. B12 in particular is involved in the production of melatonin, a hormone that regulates the sleep-wake cycle. By taking a B-complex which is high in B12, this will give you a good foundation to build a treatment plan on.
In addition to a good foundation, we can recommend a number of herbal remedies that can be used for short term relief as follows:
Viridian Avena Sativa
This is a herbal remedy derived from oats. May be particularly useful where anxiety is at the root of insomnia as some of the properties have a calming effect and are known to act on the nervous system.
Viridian Californian Poppy
Californian Poppy is known to have a sedative effect, preparing the body for natural sleep, and can be really useful where hyperactivity and restlessness are leading to insomnia, involving problems getting to sleep, nightmares and waking in the night. It can therefore be really helpful and safe for children too.
Valerian is a good all round sedative regardless of the cause of insomnia. However, in some people it can have the opposite effect. It is certainly worth a try, as those people who it does help swear by it.
Napiers Sweet Dreams
If none of the above jump out at you, try this liquid herbal remedy which contains a number of traditional herbal sleeping remedies such as passiflora, hops, valerian and skullcap which help relax the body to enable more restful sleep. It's my favourite!
