Many of us today are living with high levels of stress, both physical and emotional.  Being constantly in the 'fight or flight' state, it becomes almost normal to feel anxious, overwhelmed, tired and low - and to live with aches and pains, digestive upsets and poor sleep. 

Mind-body training can help change all that.  Using powerful techniques from modern psychology and neuroscience, you can learn how to retrain your emotional brain to respond calmly and confidently to life situations.  And you can discover simple yet powerful bodywork skills to reduce your stress levels.  You'll quickly notice improvements in your physical and mental wellbeing.  And the skills you learn will be with you for the rest of your life. 

Managing Stress - Recovering Your Zest for Life - Session with Jan Williams

At this session I'll give you a taste of what mind body training is all about.  We'll start with a little exercise reflecting on what part stress plays in your life - and how good you are at taking care of yourself!

I'll explain how the stress response works, in our brain and body; when it's useful and when it becomes unhelpful; and the consequences of chronic stress for our physical and mental wellbeing.  (Did you know, it's said that 80% of illness is created by stress?)

Then the really useful bit - I'll introduce you to some simple yet powerful techniques to change the way you deal with stress, and help you get into that wonderful state of calm and healing.  We'll practice a couple of bodywork skills.  You can do so much with breathing, posture, facial expression... We'll talk about how you talk to yourself - and we do, all of us, talk to ourselves, for good or ill.  And we'll try out a mind management exercise which will demonstrate just how powerful our thoughts are.  Marcus Aurelius said "Our life is what our thoughts make it".  And I'll demonstrate the truth of his statement. 

Recent developments in neuroscience teach us that we really can 'retrain our brain'.  These simple yet powerful mind-body exercises, practised regularly, will start that retraining process, so that in time, calm becomes your normal way of responding to the stresses and strains of life.
