Interview with Cheryl Thallon - Managing Director Of Viridian
When was the Viridian brand developed and by who?
Viridian Nutrition was founded in December 1999 by Cheryl Thallon with a mission to produce an exceptional range of nutritional supplements and to make a significant contribution to charitable causes.
What was/is the inspiration behind the brand?
The three fundamental principles at Viridian are Purity, Charity and Environment, avoiding the use of nasty chemicals in manufacture, contributing through the Viridian Nutrition Charity Donation programme and leaving a minimum eco footprint on the planet.
What does Viridian stand for?
‘Viridian’ is actually a colour, a beautiful green-blue, the same as the Earth when seen from space.
What are your personal favourite products and why?
I love the MultiPhytoNutrient Complex – it’s a full-bodied multivitamin and mineral with added plant extracts. It gives me a real boost and I never get those mid-afternoon yawns.The Viridian product I use the most though is the Raw Organic Coconut Oil – in cooking and in body care. I love it in my hair, on my face and for keeping my feet lovely and soft. I have a jar in the bathroom, one in the kitchen, one beside my bed and a little one in my handbag as a lip balm. Delicious!
What are your customers favourite products and why?
Our top categories are always the multivitamins, B-vitamins and many of the adaptogens. All these supplements relate to energy, vitality and to stress management, so it is no surprise they are popular. Our Ultimate Beauty range of supplements and topical products is fast becoming our best-selling range-within-range, as women are looking for alternatives to, or products to complement, cosmetic surgery.
What has been the proudest moment building the brand?
Other than the charity donations – there aren’t many Managing Directors who write out cheques with a smile on their face! – We were very proud to be ranked top in the Ethical Consumer magazine review of the supplement industry. We have been top in every edition of the Good Shopping Guide too.
What is the future for Viridian?
So far, we have donated £125,000 to a selection of children’s and environmental charities – our health store stockists vote for which charities each year - we look forward to doubling that and beyond.
