About Naturally Cool Kids

Interview with Fiona Wood - Founder/Owner Of Naturally Cool Kids.

When was the Naturally Cool Kids brand developed and by who?Naturally Cool Kids

I started to develop the brand in August 2010 with a local design company. The Bigger Boat. Doug took all my visions and ideas and brought them to life just as I had imagined. The character is called Nick named after our initials for Naturally Cool Kids.

What was/is the inspiration behind the brand?
My youngest son has to be the fussiest child in the whole world and trying to get him to engage and use a skincare product was an absolute nightmare. After researching the competition and seen what others were offering it came to me that no one was thinking about how the child would like the products to look. Most were white or designed more for a new born baby rather than toddlers and children. I also from a personal point of view wanted to mess free products, as I found nothing worse than getting covered in vapour rub in the middle of the night not the best experience. That’s why we came up with the deodorant style sticks and easy to use bottles and tubes. Naturally Cool Kids was born.

What does Naturally Cool Kids stand for?
The name Naturally Cool Kids was chosen by a large facebook group that I had created. We had everyone put forward the names they thought best described the concept and after a lot of narrowing down and re voting this name was decided upon. It says exactly what we want to achieve Naturally Cool Kids.

What are your personal favourite products and why?
What I call my baby of the products is the one that started this whole journey off, the Breathe Easy Vapour Stick. INaturally Cool Kids Vapour Stick have taken an old favourite that our parents and grandparents always used, tipped it on its head, tweaked it here and there and made it 100% natural and mess free. When Finlay was really ill we always used the old favourite vapour rub which I hated with the petroleum content he ended up with blocked pores causing spots all over his chest. I ended up with it all over my hands that then ended up in my eye; it stained pyjamas and bedding Yuk! Not a good experience.

What are your customers favourite products and why?
The Cheeky Chops lip and cheek protector has been a run away success for us. It is one of those products that our customers are not 100% sure what it’s for, but once you describe the benefits they are hooked, even adults use it too as its great to keep everyone protected in the winter and summer months. It also does exactly what it says on the label aids healing, soothes and protects. It really is a great all round product for dry skin patches, sore noses, dribbling babies or as a moisturiser and its 100% natural.

What has been the proudest moment building the brand?
That’s a hard one as I have had so many high’s probably when I received business woman of the year and new business of the year in my area I really felt that I had been recognised for all the hard work I had put in this really did for once which is unheard of for me make me speechless. If I could have one more it would be to be named in the top 20 start ups in the UK.

What is the future for Naturally Cool Kids?
The future now is to keep creating brand awareness as much as possible to create a household name, it’s important to me now that we become the first choice when people are sourcing good quality natural products. We are also exporting as so many companies have shown an interest this is all in the pipeline to go forward very soon. Lots of new innovative products will also be appearing so watch out.
