When was the Dr Hauschka brand developed and by who?Dr. Hauschka

Dr. Rudolf Hauschka, a leading Chemist and Elisabeth Sigmund, a nurse and Esthetician, developed the skin care brand in the 1960s and it was launched in 1967.

What was/is the inspiration behind the brand?
Supporting the skin to care for itself. Elisabeth Sigmund travelled the world learning how different cultures care for their skin in different ways. She developed an understanding of the skin from what she learned. She completed her journey when she brought together the anthroposophical medical preparations Dr.Hauschka was developing in his pharmaceutical company with her own skin care products. That was the final piece of the jigsaw for Sigmund; by this last step she achieved her aim of developing “healing cosmetics”. Dr.Hauschka was then her business partner in developing these products for market and his company became the manufacturer. Elisabeth is in her 90s and still lives in the village where the products are made. She has amazing skin for her age!

What does Dr Hauschka stand for?
Radiance! Through working with your skin, Dr.Hauschka supports your skin so that it is healthy and strong. Dr.Hauschka stands for beauty that shines out. Dr.Hauschka also stands for socially responsible business, both in terms of the human and the natural worlds. It has policies that mean it has been fair trade for 70 years, and employee participation is at its heart. It’s organic / bio dynamic growing policies also go back 70 years - even to before the organic movement was founded, so support and caring for the natural world is also at our heart.

What are your personal favourite products and why?Dr Hauschka Rose Day Cream
My favourite products are Cleansing Cream, Rose Day Cream, Hand Cream, Intensive Treatment 03 and Moisturising Mask. I also love the Rose Body Oil and the Sage Bath. They are my favourite products because I have severe eczema and these products transform my standard of life.

What are your customers favourite products and why?
We have many Hero Products that have changed people’s lives. The Rose Day Cream is the stand-out Hero Product and it became so famous because leading Make-up Artists in the movie industry discovered that they could keep an actor’s skin going throughout the day if they applied Rose Day Cream as a base below the constant application of make-up. This led to many big name stars becoming Dr.Hauschka fans. The Hand Cream is an incredible product, nurturing and healing, and that is a very big favourite, and our up and coming Hero Products are the deodorants which people love because they not only work, but don’t sting on application! For the whole range of products in the Dr.Hauschka Skin Care range, for our skin, they are both effective and gentle!

What has been the proudest moment building the brand?
Without doubt the times when I have been on the phone to customers who are in tears with joy that their lives have been transformed. This might be to do with their skin feeling comfortable for the very first time, but is just as likely to be because the Rose Day Cream has worked wonders for new mothers in the first weeks of breast feeding. To be working with a brand of skin care products that transform someone’s life for the better – just as it has for me – that makes me very proud. 

What is the future for Dr Hauschka?
Dr.Hauschka is a comprehensive skin care solution; it makes people’s lives better, and, the planet is helped too. The future for this brand has to be mainstream access to a universally effective brand – everyone deserves to experience comfortable, radiant skin.
